State Testing

Parents/Guardians of grade 3-5 students:

Below is information regarding the upcoming 2026 West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA). This is an untimed assessment administered online and measures the academic progress of our students and school. Students in grades 3-5 will take an English language arts, writing, and math assessment. Students in grade 5 will also take a science assessment. Testing begins in May (see dates below).

C.W. Shipley Spring 2026 WVGSA Testing Dates

3rd Grade: May 5-7

4th Grade: May 5-7

5th Grade:

Breeden/Cates and Mr. Gilbertson’s class May 5-8

Ms. Stoner’s class May 11-15 (due to attending StarBase  May 5-8)

Students will begin testing each morning after announcements and have as much time as needed to complete each assessment.  Students will have Specials and lunch at their regularly scheduled times.   We respectfully ask, if possible, to avoid scheduling any appointments on the dates above. If any student(s) are absent on an assessment day, they will be able to make the test up. It is our belief that all students test best with their peers in their classroom on their scheduled assessment day.

Please encourage your student(s) to do their best. More information about the WVGSA can be viewed using the following link: https://wvde.us/academics/assessment/general-summative-assessment
