Jefferson County, WV — Jefferson County Schools (JCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Lance Astorino as the new principal of C.W. Shipley Elementary School. Mr. Astorino comes to Shipley after serving since 2020 as principal of Ranson Elementary School, where he was only the fourth principal in the school's proud history.
Mr. Astorino began his career as a fourth-grade teacher before moving on to teach fifth grade. He later served as a Lead Teacher and Content Specialist, and then as the first Assistant Principal at Driswood Elementary School. He holds a Superintendent Certificate from Fairmont State University, an Administrative and Supervision Certificate and a Master of Education from West Virginia University, and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Throughout his career, Mr. Astorino has championed strong home and school partnerships and high expectations for every learner.
"I firmly believe that parents are a child's first and most important teacher," said Astorino. "By working together, we will ensure that every student is not only challenged academically, but also supported socially and emotionally. It is our goal that all students and families feel connected, valued, and cared for."
"The C.W. Shipley community is known for its warmth and dedication, and I'm honored to join it," Astorino added. "I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and to getting to know every student and family."
Outside of school, Mr. Astorino enjoys spending time with his family. His wife, Vicky, is a third-grade teacher in Berkeley County, and they have two daughters. As a family, they can often be found on the soccer field, at a volleyball game, or exploring the outdoors.
"Mr. Astorino has proven himself as a school leader who pairs high expectations with genuine care for students and families," said JCS Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bishop. "C.W. Shipley is gaining an experienced, student-centered principal, and I know he will be a great fit for the C.W. Shipley community."
