CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A pair of Jefferson County Schools students placed in the Fifth Annual State Fire Marshal Fire Safety Poster Contest. C.W. Shipley Elementary School’s Maeve Baldwin (kindergartener) and Moon Ho (5th Grade) were selected from a total of 94 student entries, representing 17 counties. This year’s theme is "Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape”. The contest recognizes students who used their artwork to visually demonstrate an understanding of fire safety.
This year marks the National Fire Protection Association's 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week. Dannika Smith, a kindergarten student at Wayne Elementary School, was the overall winner. The other winners are listed as follows:
